My favorite Orlando destinations are: comments

Comment thread for the current poll about Orlando destinations. Where would you recommend? My personal favorites have been Cirque du Soleil’s resident show Nouba and the main street through Winter Park (a neighborhood, not a theme park, that includes a great Tiffany museum).

Not a lot of votes on this one -- me for Winter Park and someone else for Disneyworld. No votes for Seaworld, Epcot Center, or Gatorland.

My impression as a kid was that every kid on the planet except me had been to Orlando. Perhaps that wasn’t true.

I grew up in the desert. We went the other direction, to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and sometimes to Sea World. Although more often the trips were to Jack Murphy Stadium and Dodger Stadium.

Thanks,

Leu Gardens turns out to be a fantastic botanical gardens on the north side of Orlando. The camellias and the roses were both in perfect bloom, the citrus trees (except the key lime) were loaded, and the tropical paths were a magical break from the snow at home.

Gatorland will have to wait for another trip -- the closest I got was hanging out by the lake at Mead Gardens that had alligator warning signs, seeing a 3-foot alligator in the water at Leu Gardens and a bunch of similar-sized gators and crocs at SeaWorld, and ordering Gator Française for lunch at 310 Park. If anyone tells you that gator tastes like chicken, that’s not right. It tastes much more like veal, at least when it’s fried in egg batter and served with mustard sauce and lemon.
