Our first crocus opened today. A deep purple, tucked in near the porch. We knew its color a few days ago, but continued nights around freezing were not encouraging the crocus to open. Now that one has shown the way, I expect we’ll have quite the cluster by next week.

I never really understood how excited my mother would be over appearances in her garden in the spring. Not until I found myself standing in my front yard encouraging the crocus, giving pep talks to the daffodils, searching for signs of buds on the azaleas.
It's such wonderful evidence that life goes on, and things get better, and future glory.
